Dear Friends and Supporters,
2010, an exciting and eventful year in South Africa, marked by the FIFA World Cup, has come to an end. In many ways 2010 also proved to be a very exciting and eventful year for AMANDLA EduFootball. Our efforts from the past few years are starting to bear fruit, as we marked a nearly 70% rise of participants in our 2010 programmes, now reaching out to over 2000 children on a weekly basis. The children’s enthusiasm and commitment to take part in our educational programmes was inspirational and thanks to the various football activities, workshops and events the steady progress in the participant’s development was noticeable throughout the year. This was emphasised by the positive feedback we received from partner organisations and local community members alike, further confirming the positive impact of our programmes on the youth’s development and social behaviour.
Football team from Khayelitsha township wins trip to Germany
Besides the dominating theme of ‘FIFA World Cup’ in 2010, which we reported about numerous times, the year featured equally important events for AMANDLA EduFootball. One of the highlights of the year was the PASCH tournament in December, which we hosted in South Africa’s largest single township, Khayelitsha, with the support of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. Youth from all over South Africa, with divers socio-cultural backgrounds, came together to participate in this educational tournament. Several football activities and workshops explored cultural diversity and promoted intercultural exchange amongst the participants. Once again football served as the platform to unite people behind one goal, to learn from each other and share culture beliefs. The winner of the tournament, a local team from Khayelitsha, was honoured with a trip to Germany to compete in a big international football tournament during the lead up to the 2011 Women’s World Cup. Overall the tournament was a huge success in achieving its goals and offered a fun and informative weekend for all the participants. For further information please find the detailed report and photos here.
2010 - Year of Progress
Not only have the children participating in our programmes developed through the year, learned to take on responsibility and accomplished great achievements, but also AMANDLA as an organisation was exposed to new challenges throughout the year. As every challenge always presents a new opportunity, our organisation further developed its programmes, strengthened and extended partnerships/networks and expanded its organisational set-up. Our new Homepage, which debuted in December, and the new design of the Newsletter are only two examples of our progression to become a leading organisation in the field of sport development. The new homepage makes it easy for you to navigate through all important information and current news on AMANDLA EduFootball in English and German.
At this point we would like to thank all our partners, supporters, sponsors and last but not least you for your continuous support that has made all the above possible. Thank you very much!
We hope for your continued support and interest in our educational work. With all the best wishes for a successful, healthy and promising year 2011,
Your AMANDLA EduFootball
