Michelle Obama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu visit AMANDLA EduFootball

Dear Friends and Supporters,

On the 23rd of June AMANDLA EduFootball was honoured by the visit of the US First Lady Michelle Obama and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Desmond Tutu to show their support for the work of the organisation at Cape Town Stadium. After their speeches the First Lady and the Peace Nobel Prize Winner met with Florian Zech, Co-Founder and Managing Director of AMANDLA, who introduced them to the concept and mission of AMANDLA’s “Life-Skills through Football” activities. Much to the excitement and surprise of the participants both Tutu and Obama joined in the life-skills activity being implemented by the AMANDLA coaches. Read more...

Furthermore we are happy to report that the Germany trip of our team from Khayelitsha was a great success. The girls and boys enjoyed this special experience and you can still see the excitement in their faces whenever they talk about their journey. The kids also wrote a daily BLOG, which enables us to see Germany through their eyes. Please click here to view it on AMANDLA’s website...

For the third and last point of this special edition, the fund-raiser "Dr. Schulze doubles up" we would appreciate your support...

Short Pass

DR SCHULZE DOUBLES UP YOUR DONATION TO AMANDLA!

Last year Dr Christian Schulze graciously supported AMANDAL EduFootball with an extremely successful fundraising campaign and this year he will repeat this generosity. The concept behind the 2011 campaign is very simple: For every €URO donated up until December 2011, Dr Schulze will double the amount! Last time we were able to raise € 10,000.00 – this time around we hope to live up to the campaign’s slogan and DOUBLE UP! on our past fundraising for a grand total of € 20,000.00! All funds raised will go directly towards AMANDLA’s unique “Life-Skills through Football Programme” for young people who are forced to grow up separated from their families and in severely disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances in South Africa.

AMANDLA is very thankful for the continued support of Dr Schulze and we hope you will join this campaign and assist AMANDLA in achieving its goal

AMANDLA Success Stories
Goodbye and Thank You, Ryan!
It is undeniable that AMANDLA EduFootball has made enormous strides in the past few year. This is due to the hard work, engagement, enthusiasm and passion of our team members. Invaluable people like Ryan McGonigle. As the Chris Campbell Memorial Field takes steps towards becoming a sustainable, community-run project, Ryan, easily one of the most valuable and experienced members of our team, is stepping down from his post as Programme Manager to go back home to the United States. Without his commitment and perseverance over the past three years AMANDLA would not be the successful organisation we are today and for this we are forever grateful. Thank You Ryan and all the best! Your AMANDLA Team
Background South Africa:

According to Statistics SA, of all approximately 10 million young people between the ages 10 to 19 living in the Republic of South Africa over 20% have lost at least one parent. This statistic does not consider the additional numbers of young people that have to be removed from their families due to domestic violence, drug abuse, and/or sexual harassment/assault.

Hence AMANDLA EduFootball strives to equip young people with life-skills and knowledge to deal with difficult social circumstances, increase their career opportunities and provide a platform of dialogue through the medium of football.
